The Word on Spiral Out!

Spiral Out

"...makes you wonder what Crimso would be like if Oteri took over Belew's guitar chair - possibly re-invigorated!" FOUR THUMBS UP!
-Manny Lunch, Downtown Music Gallery NY
"Spiral Out is an extension of the improvisational outings that made acts like John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra and Tony Williams Lifetime, King Crimson and even Frank Zappa the uniquely memorable experience that made musical history."  "Whatever is in Willie Oteri's water, I think it's high time that it was poured into the two dimensional cesspool which is what some of the homogenized and pasteurized modern music industry has become today.
-Bruce Stringer, Music Street Journal
"I think Spiral Out is one of the best fusion discs to come along in years. Where is the follow-up?? Keep The Faith (in the Music)"
-Ken Brown
"Guitarist Oteri with King Crimson side men in a improvised rock/jazz outing, prog fans take note, the torch of interesting fusion lives on!"
-Squidco, Review of Spiral Out
"A highly gifted work, absolute recommendation!"
-Ragazzi, Music Review of Spiral Out

WD-41 Review from Dan Fiebiger

December 9th, 2013

Dan Fiebiger

"...goes beyond anything Charlie Parker or Miles Davis did during even the most experimental years of the Be-Bop jazz era, although there's some of that influence in this album, also. This is as much inspired by other avant-guarde artists such as John Cage, Edgard Varese, George Crumb, or Smegma..."

Gapplegate Reviews Shrunken Head Shop!

December 9th, 2013

Thanks to Grego Applegate Edwards for the review of Shrunken Head Shop in the Gapplegate Guitar and Bass Blog!

Gapplegate Guitar and Bass Blog

"Oteri's guitar has presence; he is in full control of his sound and builds atmospheric sculptures that Laczko complements with sympathetic and aurally keen counter-envelopes of sound. This is one of those CDs that entirely deserves to be heard by anyone who likes to live inside exotically compelling musical environments. It's rather beautiful too."

Midwest Record Reviews Concepts of MateMaToot!

May 9th, 2015

Thanks to Chris Spector, editor and publisher of Midwest Record for this review of Willie Oteri's Jazz Gunn, Concepts of MateMaToot! Check out the full Issue: Volume 38/190

Midwest Record

Talking about sticking to it for the cause. This was originally recorded in 2000 but Oteri felt it came out a little half assed because of budget limitations. 15 years later, he went back into the studio to buff it up and make it reflect his love of "Bitches Brew", Miles Davis and Joe Zawinul. These are not claims to brush off since he has worked with Tony Levin, Mike Keneally and others in that vein. Kind of an extension of "Bitches Brew", if you like the original, this spin off might well tickle your fancy as the grooves and vibes are right in the same pocket without being derivative. Pretty cool stuff if elephant funk is your thing.
